Now the Real Fun Starts

Hi there, it's Mommy again. While Rex is at daycare, I thought I'd take over his blog again to share an anecdote with you. Since he started crawling, Rex is into everything! Yesterday evening we went to Walmart. I thought with him being in the buggy, I'd have some control. Nope. Rex is only 9 months old, yet he has already learned how to shop. He got his hands on a pack of markers and threw them in the back of the buggy! I thought I had a little more time before I had to worry about that, but apparently not.

Mommy hijacks the blog

Mommy here. The little blogger was getting a bit cranky, so I put him in his crib for a nap. A few minutes later it was pretty quiet so I went to check on him. I was being careful not to let him see me, but I could tell that he was awake and moving around. A few minutes later, I went to check on him again and found this. Luckily, the camera didn't wake him up!

Eating Out

It was such a beautiful day yesterday, that when Mommy and I got home we decided to go sit under the tree outside and have a little picnic. We had a great time. Mommy took the top off of my bottle, and I drank my juice from it like it was a big-person cup. I did pretty good with it! When Mommy wouldn't let me eat the clovers and flowers, I settled for the next best thing...puffs. We didn't stay out too long because the bees were making Mommy nervous. Here's a picture and video for you to enjoy.

Move Over Dora...

...there's a new explorer in town!

I've only been crawling for about a week and a half, but I've really got the hang of it. Now when I see something appealing, I just head straight for it. Why do Mommy and Daddy take everything away when I try to put it in my mouth?

My Very Own Shoes

Aren't they so cool! And my LSU shirt is a hand-me-down from cousin Noah.

My New Ride

I've been getting so tall that I'm just about too tall to fit in my infant carrier. Mommy and Daddy bought me a new car seat. I took my first ride in it today. Boy, is it comfy. Take a look.

Chomper #2

This past weekend I woke up with that nagging pain in my mouth. It hurt so bad that I could do nothing but fuss and fuss all weekend. I wanted Mommy so bad that I would start screaming every time she walked away from me. On Sunday she discovered the reason for my awful mood. Another tooth has broken through. It's on the bottom right next to my other one. Now that it's out, I'm feeling better.

Houston: We Have Forward Motion!

I've been working hard on my crawling skills. I don't quite have the mechanics yet, but I finally figured out how to move forward. I also got from a crawling position to a sitting position and a sitting position to a crawling position all by myself! This is so awesome! I just can't wait to get my hands on all these cool things around the house that I've been looking at for almost nine months now. Here are some highlights from the afternoon.

Mission: Slow but Possible

Tower of Babble

After months of cooing, shrieking, and gurgling, I am moving on to a new set of sounds. I had been putting my lips together and saying "mmmmmm" for quite some time. Then this past Sunday I turned it into "ma ma ma". Since then I've been working on sound after sound. Yesterday, I tried out "ba ba ba" and today I premiered "na na na", "da da da", and "bla bla bla"! How did I not realize sooner all the amazing sounds I could make with my mouth?!

While we're on the subject of new things I'm learning, I'm sure you are all wondering how I'm doing with getting around these days. Well, if I'm sitting down, and I want to get somewhere, I kind of just scoot myself forward with my bottom. I haven't quite figured out this crawling thing yet. I can get onto my knees, but I can't figure out how to go anywhere in that position. Sometimes I just get on my knees and rock back and forth. Mommy says I will be crawling in no time. That is if I don't start walking first. I try to pull up on everything. I still need help to get to that standing position, but that doesn't stop me from trying. Whatever is closest to me I grab onto and pull. Today the closest thing was my girlfriend Carli's head. I'm not sure she appreciated that.

And one more thing before I sign off. Remember that tooth I got last month? We finally got a good picture of it so I thought I'd share. No sign of any other teeth yet.

Bathtime!

I just love taking baths in the big tub! Here's a video for you to enjoy.

Throw Me Something, Mister!

Yesterday, I went to my very first Mardi Gras parade! Mommy and Daddy took me to their hometown of LaPlace to see the Krewe Du Monde parade. I had so much fun. It was kind of cold so I had to get all bundled up. It was loud, but I didn't mind. I got a bunch of beads and toys to chew on. Here are some photo highlights of my day.

I'd like to give a big "shout-out" to Nannie Toni for my awesome Mardi Gras shirt!

Bundled up and ready to go.

Waiting for the next float.

T-Rex the Carnivore

T-Rex was a meat-eating dinosaur, and now so am I! Today, I had chicken with my lunch! It took me by surprise at first.

You know what though? It's not half bad.

My Funny Valentine...'s Day

Yesterday was very special. Not only was it Valentine's Day, but it was also Daddy's birthday. He's an old man...THIRTY YEARS!!! And I thought thirty weeks was a lot.

Mommy and Daddy exchanged presents, but I got the best present of all. They let me play with the tissue paper.

The rest of day was fun too. Mommy and Daddy took me to the book store, and I got two new dinosaur books.

Then, I got to see G.G. and Grandpa Rick.

Mommy and Daddy went out last night, and I got to spend the whole night with Grandma Mary and Grandpa Pat. It was a lot of fun.

I hope you all had a great day as well!

8 is great!

Yep, folks: I'm 8 months old today! That means I've been around for two-thirds of a year! Mommy was in my face with the camera bright and early this morning. I had plenty of "cheese smiles" to appease her.

Here's me playing with my favorite toy. Nannie Toni gave it to me for Christmas, and I just love it! Today I used it to practice my drumming skills.

Mommy says this month will be fun because I can start eating more exciting things like meat and cheese. Maybe I'll start crawling too. Well, it's bathtime so I've gotta go. Oh, speaking of baths, I get to sit in the big tub now! I just love splashing in the water.

Chomper #1

So as I was telling you, my first tooth broke through on Monday of last week (1/19). It's been slowly but surely making it's way out. Mommy tried to snap a picture yesterday. This was the best she could get.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP! WHOAAAAA!

Mommy bought me these fun crackers, too! They're great for biting. And if you bang them on the table, it's just like a drum!

Not What I Ordered

Mommy thought she'd play a little trick on me. This time when she cooked my carrots she mashed them up instead of pureeing them. Are you kidding me? It didn't take long for her to realize that I was not up to the challenge. Although I chew on just about everything, I am just not interested in chewing my food. Those little bits of carrot made me gag. Mommy got the point: the rest of the batch went into the Magic Bullet.

And speaking of chewing, Mommy says that soon I'll really be able to chew because my first tooth is on its way. Is that what this awful pain in my mouth is? I'd rather eat pureed food for the rest of my life then have to feel like this. Just the tip of it is out. I'll let you know when it comes out all the way.

Sleepy-saurus Rex

Lately, I've been seeing bright flashes of light in my sleep. Do you think that's related to these pictures I found on Mommy's camera?

"Auntie" Marisha

Mommy's friend, "Auntie" Marisha, came to visit me. She lives in a place called Arkansas. I had so much fun with her. She kept me company in the back seat of the car. She made up this awesome sign language song. And she's so pretty, I just couldn't stop staring at her. Don't tell my girlfriend that...and don't tell Auntie Marisha's husband, Tony, either!

Hey, Where'd It Go?

For a while now I've been contemplating how to get in the Guiness Book of World Records. Well, I decided I want to be named the first baby with a six-pack. I found the perfect place to do my abdominal workouts: my bouncy seat! I can do crunches and other calisthenics in it.

Folks, my bouncy seat is gone. I thought Mommy and Daddy would let me hang out in it today and I would get a good workout in, but it's nowhere to be found. Wait a minute. Come to think of it, I saw Daddy carting a suspicious looking bag into the attic along with the Christmas decorations. Rats!
